A few days before my daughter's 14th birthday I started to wonder if I am doing a "good" job raising her. It was difficult not to question whether I have been teaching her the in's and out's that will carry her through life. Then I thought, "well if I'm not, everyone else is." Since September my Maia, now 14 years old, has been living with my mother in Georgia and I now see that this is an experience and learning lesson that she will never forget. She is living under the helms of a 71 year old woman who raised me in an environment that made education unquestionable and taught me how joyous it is to love family. My mother always talks about how Maia adores me and wants to be like me, but the truth is Maia is already like so many of the women in my family that I can only take credit for a small percentage. Thanks to all my wonderful family members and friends for helping me raise such a beautiful, confident, proud, sensitive, courageous, loving, strong, and gorgeous child! Maia, I love you! Happy Birthday!
